Audit Findings Plus: 6 Takeaways from Special Council Meeting
Monday, November 3rd, the Village of Cloudcroft council held a special meeting. Here’s what happened.
Here’s what you need to know from last night’s special council meeting.
Dahlia Garcia of Beasley & Mitchell presented the fiscal year 2024 independent auditor’s report and audit findings, which include: a late audit submission; “significant deficiency” in bank reconciliations, accounts payable, segregation of duties, and more; a missing capital asset list; material weakness in accounting records; and other non-compliance issues with board meeting minutes and more.
View the audit results, which examined July 1st, 2023, through June 30th, 2024, here:
Some of the report’s findings—like an inactive Lodger’s Tax Advisory Board and a lack of village meeting minutes—have been remedied for the next fiscal year’s audit or have a simple fix.
Most problems are more troublesome. Findings bridged both the administrations of former Mayor Turner and Mayor Denney. We will provide a closer examination of the audit findings and their implications in a forthcoming article.
Unanimously approved: a resolution granting Trustee Keith Hamilton authorization to sign checks and other village documents.
Unanimously approved: the online application for Lodger’s Tax funding. We’ll link it soon.
Amy Coor was appointed and unanimously confirmed to the Planning and Zoning Commission. Coor also serves on the Parks and Recreation and Lodger’s Tax Advisory boards. Mayor King stated that he consulted Village Attorney Zach Cook, and there is no limit on the number of boards a person can volunteer for.
Rick Donnelly was appointed and unanimously confirmed to the Planning and Zoning Commission.
Gina Sweeny was appointed and unanimously confirmed to the Library Advisory Board. At least one seat is still open—interested parties can apply at CloudcroftVillage.com.
