Explainer: Missed 1 of 3 Water Samples, "No Quality Concerns"
On Thursday, September 4th, a notice was sent out by the village regarding a missed June water sampling. Here's what happened

Villagers received this public notice in their emails yesterday, Thursday, September 4th: “Important Information about your drinking water: Monitoring requirements not met for Cloudcroft water System…”
What To Know
Public Works Supervisor Joe John (JJ) Carrizal clarified for the Reader that in June 2025, one of the three state-required monthly water samples was not taken.
The other two samples were taken, with no worrisome results, according to Public Works.
New Mexico requires three tests each month for Cloudcroft— a step up from a few years ago when only two were required. The increase in testing is based on the local population.
In June, only two samples were submitted due to miscommunication after Level Four Water Operator Aaron Foster’s sudden resignation. Following Foster’s departure, new operator-in-training Sean O’Connor has been working with staff to ensure all sampling procedures are completed correctly.
Carrizal says that water testing has since returned to schedule, with full sampling conducted in both July and August—all results met state standards and showed no safety concerns.
Per state requirements, customers were notified of the missed June sample through billing inserts and email. The state appears to consider the issue closed.
Carrizal emphasized that Cloudcroft’s water supply has remained safe throughout this process. “The missed June sample was a compliance oversight, not a water quality issue,” he noted.
