Hello, Goodbye: Burro Ave Sees Changing Tides
Every season, Burro Avenue sees new Cloudcroft businesses spring up, and others close down. Here's a look at some recent activity
The Village continues to evolve as Burro Avenue says hello to some new faces and goodbye to a couple of long-time favorites.
Let’s start with the sad news: two beloved local businesses are closing.
After five years of serving fresh, impeccable meals, Chef Richard and Bridget Lepree celebrated the last day of business at the popular restaurant Lepree’s Global Comfort Food. On their last day open, Bridget remarked with a smile that she and Chef would still be in Cloudcroft and that nowadays, she could have “lunch with [us]!”
Another sad goodbye: Bloom and Grow Pediatrics, the office of Nurse Practitioner Susan Bruce, located at the east end of Burro Ave., is closing as of March 21, 2024. Bruce is retiring after 25 years of practicing medicine and says of working in Cloudcroft, “It has been a pleasure working with such a wonderful community of families and their children; I will miss you all dearly.”
She has referred clients past the closing date to the new medical office opening in Cloudcroft under Family Nurse Practitioner Julia Eigenmann, Trestle Medical Services, located at 1200 James Canyon Highway.
For the Village’s new growth, look to the Northwest end of Burro Ave, where three new businesses have recently opened.
Toni’s Mexican Grill offers Mexican food classics like tacos, burritos, and enchiladas—all made freshly each day. You’ll find Toni’s at 206 Burro Ave. Seasonal hours vary, but until the Summer Toni’s is open at 11:30 AM Wednesdays through Saturdays, until she sells out.
Also, at that end of Burro Ave, you’ll find The Fat Rabbit, a Turquoise & Silver Trading Co., which features a range of Navajo-made jewelry (and they are willing to ship). They are open 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Tuesday through Sunday.
In the same small shopping center of pre-fabricated wooden buildings, a health and beauty shop, Peak Nutrition, features meal-replacement shakes, supplements, and more.
On the Northeast corner of Burro, one business has doubled in size.
Mountain Magic, the gifts, souvenir and home goods shop has expanded, with the mountain-themed, rustic Rendezvous next door.
