Hotel Cloudcroft on Burro ‘Closer to Opening’: Water Pressure Test Truck-In Scheduled at ‘No Cost to Village’
The newly remodeled hotel plans to open soon after passing tests and inspections, date TBA.
Hotel Cloudcroft on Burro Avenue, owned by Lance and Robin Giest of Tularosa, is taking steps toward opening.
According to Mayor Tim King, one step is a state-required water pressure test on two fire hydrants near Burro Avenue, scheduled for this Friday, April 25th. The hotel will pay for water to be trucked in for this test, agreeing to cover the cost of about 6,000 gallons, the Reader confirmed with both the hotel owners and King.
Hotel Cloudcroft, located along the northern Burro boardwalk next door to the Western Bar and Cafe, will have 18 rooms, including two family suites and two suites with upstairs balconies overlooking the street. It will also offer a complimentary coffee, tea, and hot chocolate bar.
"We have the trolley that will be available to transport our guests and any other visitors in Cloudcroft all around town, at no charge to them. We plan to make a circle, a little loop,” Giest said of the planned hotel amenity.
Giest “didn’t know” when Hotel Cloudcroft would open, and that several “inspections and tests” were still on the horizon.
She confirmed that their company had purchased the former Texas Hotel across from the library because there was a convenient spot to park the trolley next to it. The Giests plan to remodel the former hotel building and rent the entire home through the Hotel Cloudcroft website.
Giest spoke to her family's long-standing connection to the mountains, sharing, "My family has always lived here," and recalled how her grandparents, who lived in Sacramento and Weed, rode horses to Cloudcroft, took the train to Alamagordo to get married, and returned by train.
The Reader will report developments in this story and offer a sneak peek of Hotel Cloudcroft closer to its opening date.
