Council Pay, Hotel Bar and Public Works Staffing at Special Village Meeting
With rain pouring down Burro Avenue on Tuesday night, Sept. 29, the council worked quickly through a busy agenda at a sparsely attended special meeting.
Police Investigate “Intentionally” Vandalized Public Park Courts
Cloudcroft’s popular public courts were vandalized with a ‘big rock’ on Sunday night. The local pickleball club is offering a $3,500 reward for information leading to an arrest.
Trustee and Parks and Recreation Chair Matt Willett and member Amy Coor released this statement on behalf of the advisory board:
“The Parks & Recreation Advisory Board is deeply disappointed by the recent vandalism at the pickleball courts. These courts have become a wonderful outdoor recreational space for our community and a great asset to Cloudcroft tourism, bringing visitors to our village and giving people another reason to enjoy our beautiful mountain community.”
“Beyond recreation and tourism, the courts have also helped generate funds that support Cloudcroft Basketball, Track and Field, and the Pickleball Addicts of Cloudcroft (PAC), giving back directly to our local athletes and families. This is exactly the kind of community asset we want to see grow and thrive.”
“Vandalism not only damages a facility that belongs to all of us, but also takes away time, money, and resources that could be invested in improving our parks and supporting our community. We encourage everyone to take pride in our public spaces and to speak up if they see vandalism or destructive behavior. These courts are a community investment, and we want to keep them a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable place for residents and visitors for years to come.”
Public Works Supervisor JJ Carrizal has inspected the damage and is in contact with contractors for an estimate on the extent and type of repairs required.
