Wiley Campaign Wants Return of Former PD Chief Schoolcraft
Former chief says he will rejoin Cloudcroft police only if Wiley is elected mayor; Mayor King declines comment
Would Roger Schoolcraft return as Cloudcroft’s police chief?
He says “Yes,” if Wiley is elected mayor.

News of Schoolcraft’s announcement was posted on former Mayor Craig Turner’s Facebook page on Friday, after Turner endorsed Wiley in the race earlier this month.
When contacted by the Reader, former Cloudcroft Police Chief Roger Schoolcraft confirmed that he would want to lead the department only if mayoral candidate Dusty Wiley is elected.
Schoolcraft’s return, like with any village employee, would be dependent on the vote of the council trustees.
Schoolcraft resigned as chief in December 2024, following months of village employee and administrative turnover, including elected Mayor Turner’s resignation that same month.
Asked whether he would consider rejoining if Mayor Tim King remained mayor, Schoolcraft was clear: “No,” adding that “the village needs to go a different direction.”
Schoolcraft said that his response is “nothing on Tim,” he believes “the village needs a new path forward” and that Wiley “understands my vision for the police department.”
Friday night, the Reader asked Mayor King about Schoolcraft’s announcement. King had no comment.
In a seeming response to Schoolcraft’s announcement, King’s campaign page “Timothy E. King for Mayor” on Facebook shared this Reader article on Saturday morning:
