Air Force Volunteers Offer Snow Removal Program
Under the direction of Staff Sergeant William “Cody” Marquez, volunteers from Holloman Air Force Base are lending a helping hand to the village of Cloudcroft.
Elderly and other folks who struggle with snowfall are invited to sign up at the village office for help shoveling snow from their drives and walkways. Mayor Wiley and Public Works Supervisor Carrizal will screen applicants and submit a list of eligible homes for the volunteer troop.
The group will use their own equipment and manpower—they’ve signed up to be “on call” for big storms to help those in need. Volunteers can also sign up at the village office. For more information, drop by and chat with Utilities Clerk Ashley White.
Don’t sleep on it—The Village of Cloudcroft Lodgers’ Tax application is due March 1st.
Any organization that promotes travel and tourism for the benefit of the village is eligible to apply for funding to help advertise and market its tourist-related events to out-of-town visitors. These public funds help drive overnight stays and boost economic activity in the village, supporting local businesses and the community as a whole.

Fern Hits the Sacramento Mountains
After months of warmer-than-average temperatures and little moisture, Cloudcroft got over a foot of snow at the end of January.
Broken poles, fallen limbs and trees, and heavy snows caused major power outages across the Sacramento Mountains.

Otero County Electric Cooperative (OCEC) reported significant damage to infrastructure: in initial assessments, at least 10 broken poles and 10–12 broken crossarms were identified, along with countless fallen trees that are complicating restoration efforts to the “over 3,000 meters” without power over the weekend.
In brutal temperatures and icy conditions, OCEC launched a large, multi-agency response that included OCEC line personnel, vegetation crew members, additional lineworkers from A.R.C. Power Line Construction, and equipment operators from Batte Gravel and Peñasco Gravel companies.
The majority of meters have been restored to power.
